As the debate draws near, Governor Doug Burgum reiterated that the economy remains the central issue for voters this election cycle. Trump's recent economic address outlined strategies intended to reduce taxes and address inflation, which Burgum believes will attract attention from undecided voters. By focusing on economic policies rather than personal attacks, Trump may have a significant advantage in the upcoming debates.
In discussing Trump's comments regarding tariffs as a means to fund child care expenses, Burgum highlighted the potential benefits of using tariffs to improve local economies. By imposing tariffs on foreign goods, the goal is to bolster domestic production and create jobs in states like North Dakota. Burgum shared that this approach aligns with the state's interest in energy production and economic self-sufficiency.
The ongoing debate regarding election integrity continues to influence political discourse. Burgum believes that Trump's statements draw attention to widespread worries among Americans about the fairness of elections. While some may perceive threats against election officials as alarming, Burgum argues that a call for strict adherence to electoral rules is essential for maintaining trust in the democratic process.
In a recent interview, Republican Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota addressed the strategies and rhetoric of former President Donald Trump as the political landscape heats up ahead of the next debate. Burgum highlighted that Trump's performance will hinge primarily on his economic speech delivered in New York, stating that voters are chiefly concerned about economic issues, regardless of their political affiliation. He claimed that Trump's comprehensive economic plan could resonate strongly with the electorate, making it a focus as the debate approaches. Burgum further elaborated on Trump's proposals regarding tariffs and child care costs. Trump suggested that revenue from tariffs could be utilized to subsidize child care expenses, a statement that Governor Burgum defended as a part of a broader economic strategy focused on energy independence and wealth generation. The Governor emphasized the significance of treating energy as a foundational asset that can drive economic growth and lift living standards for all Americans. Amid rising tensions and accusations against election officials, Burgum expressed that Trump's insistence on fair elections addresses a genuine concern among voters. He underscored the importance of maintaining the integrity of the election process, which he believes must include adherence to established rules. While some may view Trump's remarks as controversial, Burgum asserted that protecting the electoral system is paramount and deserves attention in today's political environment. No one cares much what anyone from North Dakota says. We should give the state to Canada in exchange for a case of maple syrup.
Apparently, NBC News had to interview this guy because everyone else in the US was busy.

*Fiction:* Burgum tried to pull a fast one by saying that Trumps lawless, reckless border policies have to do with workers wages. Its the usual fairy tale about asylum seekers driving down wages. *Facts:* Corporations and lawmakers, not immigrants, determine workers wages. On the contrary, migrant workers *relieve* consumers from rising food costs: they expose themselves to scorching heat on remote farms, planting and harvesting crops that make food more affordable. Bakeries that use migrant labor charge significantly less for bread than grocery stores [see Nebraska, for example]. Migrant workers who work in slaughterhouses under harsh conditions play a significant role in making meat affordable; they maintain office buildings and public facilities during and after work hours to make them more welcoming to workers and the public. For example, migrant workers maintain parks and trails for the publics enjoyment and help keep recreation industry prices low (hotels, resorts, theaters, etc.). Infrastructure repairs or maintenance cost taxpayers less than they would have; it is no secret that migrant workers pave roads and fill potholes. None of these occupations _take_ jobs from American workers or _depress_ wages for the American worker. š
